The significance of Audio-visual tools used in Higher Education Institutions

Any equipment or item that teacher employ to support student’s learning are often referred to as teaching aids. They foster interaction and give students a multi model learning environment. The process of teaching-learning depends upon the different types of tools available in the classroom. There are many teaching devices available like audio, visual, audio-visual called Teaching Learning Materials (TLM). In higher education institutions audio-video aids plays an important role in teaching learning environment in various ways. It enables young learner to motivate and understand the concept according to their individual differences. The audio-visual aids work effectively in the teaching and learning process because it engage the learner by using more than one sense they employ eyes, ears, mind, fingers and may also engage the feelings of the learner. Dike (1993) defines audio-visual aids as training or educational material which are aimed at the sense of sight and hearing, their functionally is to enhance the learning experience by using handouts, photos, White Board, Flipchart, Power point, slide show, microphone, music, film among others. The audio-video tools have value in the learning activities of learner for the reason that they can reinforce the concepts that an educator has been aiming to communicate. The main objective of this paper is to study the significance of audio-video aids used in higher education institutions and analyze the impact of the audiovisual tools in the present context of teaching learning process. In this study the secondary data collection method was used with the help of books, journals, magazines, internet, websites etc.
